About fitted wardrobes in E11
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. We allow for ventilation behind and within wardrobes on external walls. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes with nowhere proper to go and bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Fitted wardrobes across E11: local notes
Across E11, including Leyton, Forest Gate and Bakers Arms, bedrooms come in every size. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. The inside layout is planned around your things.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 57% of the housing in E11, with about 12% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. About 57% of homes in the E11 postcode district were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that aren’t straight. About 32% of households in E11 live in terraced houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, which suit fitted furniture.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in E11, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Leytonstone: Valentines Mansion, about 2.4 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near George Tomlinson Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
Flats, conversions and lettings
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
What affects the price in E11
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The width and height of the space
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Spray painting or hand painting
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What to send when you get in touch
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in E11
Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture, and everything has a place behind it.
People normally get in touch with us about things like these:
- No space in front for doors to swing
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
- An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
Fill the rails gradually and spread the weight along them rather than packing one end. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.
Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
Questions we are often asked
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet and the doors line up.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Do you cover E11?
Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, E11 included.
