Fitted home offices for homes in Morden

Everything in a home office starts with the desk. We make it to a height and depth that suit you, your chair and your screen, with storage below where it helps. Shelves and cupboards can be planned around it. We will discuss the details during the design visit in Morden. If you’re living with wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day and an awkward space with no furniture that fits, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

For occasional working, a small desk on a landing or under the stairs can be enough. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Morden, the hall or landing may have room for one. Cupboards with doors keep files and the printer out of sight. Meters and fuse boards stay reachable.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

How it’s made

Pull-out drawers

A set of drawers can sit under one end of the desk. Leave knee room in the middle. We plan it at the measuring visit.

Spray-painted finish

For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. We apply it in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.

Morden homes and fitted home offices

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Morden were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 84%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 5%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how home offices are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 9 entries within half a mile of the centre of Morden. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Morden joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Lawrence, less than half a mile east of the centre of Morden, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live near Cannon Hill Common, a desk placed to make the most of daylight makes a big difference to a working day. For a flat near St Helier station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Before fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

How to get a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, use our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

What affects the price in Morden

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.

Getting in touch

These details help when you contact us:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Examples of the look you’re after

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Tips worth knowing

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
  • Consider your chair when planning the desk
  • Think about glare on your screen
  • Note what sits on and around your desk

When we have finished fitting, the desk and storage are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. A desk mat helps protect the new paint while it settles.

Keep the chair from knocking the desk edge. Ease the chair in rather than pushing it hard. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.

Questions from Morden

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Morden?

Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London, and Morden is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Morden?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, use our contact form.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Can a home office go in a loft room?

Yes, in a loft that’s already converted. We place the desk so you can sit and stand without hitting the slope, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We don’t carry out loft conversions.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
