Our fitted home offices across Merton
We make each home office in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the desk and shelving their strength, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Merton. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about files and folders piling up and a screen that’s hard to read by the window.
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
- First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind, whether that is a spare room, an alcove or a landing.
- At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
- The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
- Every part is built in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The office is fitted, scribed to the walls and checked with you. The cable routes are left ready to use.
How our quotes work
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

We fit furniture in homes around St. Mark's Church, Willington School and Wimbledon High School and the streets around them. You’ll also find Cannizaro Park (0.8 miles west), Bishop Gilpin CofE Primary School (within half a mile north-east) and Dog & Fox pub (a few minutes’ walk west). Wimbledon has its own railway station: Wimbledon station. A little further out are Wimbledon Museum (under half a mile west) and Atkinson Morley Hospital (1.2 miles west). Open spaces near Wimbledon include Henman Hill and Merton Park Green Walks.
Built-in desks and shelving across Merton
Across Merton, from Wimbledon, Colliers Wood and Morden outwards, we design and fit fitted home offices. A desk behind doors suits a room that has to do two things. Shelf spans are chosen so books don’t bow them.
In Merton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 37%) and before 1919 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 37% of homes in Merton date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The box room over the stairs in an interwar house is a classic home office, built around the bulkhead. Terraced houses are home to about 36% of households in Merton, based on Census 2021. In a terrace, an alcove or the back bedroom often becomes the office.
We cover the whole of London, so homes in Merton are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.
Wimbledon: Close to Cannizaro Park? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. If your home is one of the older houses near St. Mark's Church, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf desks leave you to work out the cables. A fitted desk can have routes built in for chargers, screens and printers. It keeps things neat above and below the desk.
What to check before you book
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
Practical tips
These points come up often when people plan fitted home offices. They help before and after fitting:
- Think about what will sit on the shelves
- Tell us about every device that needs a home
- Think about what you’d like on show
- Let us know about parking during the design visit
Any sockets or wiring are for your electrician, and the furniture leaves room for them. Show them the cable routes so everything lines up. Tidy cables keep the office looking calm.
Do not overload shelves beyond what they were designed for. Shelves are made for the load you planned. Keep the weight spread along the shelf.
Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Because it cuts cleanly, MDF suits panels and angled pieces. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the office is in. It’s easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps on a well-used desk.
What prompts fitted home offices
People also want an office that looks good on video calls. Shelving and cupboards can give a calm, ordered background. It’s a small detail that many people appreciate.
People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Files and folders piling up
- A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room
- Flimsy shelves that won’t take the weight
- An alcove or landing that could take a desk
Questions we’re often asked
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?
Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.
Where is the furniture made?
We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. After that, we fit it in your home.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Can you fit sockets in the desk?
We don’t do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. It helps to agree the positions at the measuring visit.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
