Bespoke kitchens in Pinner: local notes
About 43% of the homes in the streets around Pinner went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 28% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 41 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Pinner. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Harrow sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 1.5 miles east. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If you live in a flat close to Hatch End station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Pinner is within the London Borough of Harrow, about 2 miles south-east of Harrow. Anywhere in Pinner, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We list Pinner among 20 places we cover in Harrow.
Here we cover the HA5 postcode area for bespoke kitchens. Whether you live on a street like Love Lane, Tudor Road and Marsh Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for bespoke kitchens. Close by, we also work in Pinner Green (1 mile north-west), Eastcote (1 mile south), North Harrow (1 mile south-east), Roxbourne (1 mile south) and Rayners Lane (2 miles south-east). Other parts of Harrow we cover include Stanmore (4 miles east), Harrow Weald (2 miles east), Wealdstone (2 miles east), Little Stanmore (5 miles east), Greenhill (2 miles east) and South Harrow (3 miles south-east).

Nearby you will also find Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital (1.3 miles north-west) and Heath Robinson Museum (a few minutes’ walk south-east).
Bespoke kitchens in Pinner
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the worktop you choose can sit level. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about open shelves with cupboards below and tall larder storage.
Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. Around Pinner, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the design can make the most of it. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Preparing the room
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

How it’s made
Birch plywood
Long kitchen shelves can sag under plates and jars, and birch plywood helps.
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it stays flat.
Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. We can design for a galley, an alcove or a corner without wasting space.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
- A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
- A kitchen for a room that is not square
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Sweetmans Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
Questions we are often asked
I live near Hatch End station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Pinner?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London, and Pinner is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?
Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, to give a level line for the worktop. That’s a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Pricing bespoke kitchens in Pinner
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- The internal fittings
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Parking near your home
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What to send when you contact us
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Your postcode and the borough
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- The type of home and how the room is reached
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Practical tips
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
- Allow space to walk round an island
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- Think about how the cabinets will get in
New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first and avoid harsh cleaners. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.
If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
