Tips worth knowing

Getting the most from fitted home offices starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Notice where daylight falls at different times
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Measure your chair and how much room you need behind it
  • Think about what you’d like on show

We run each drawer and open each door with you before we go. We will show you the cable routes and how they’re meant to be used. That way, you can start work right away.

Use a mat or coasters on the desk for hot drinks. Keep liquids away from the edge. A desk mat under the keyboard and mouse saves wear on the surface.

Fitted home offices for homes in Eastcote

Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, shaped by the way you work. In Eastcote, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about an awkward space with no furniture that fits and wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Eastcote, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. Cupboards that close over the desk let the room switch back when you have finished. We plan the cable routes around your sockets.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the home office designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Changes to the structure of the house
  • Turning an unconverted loft into a room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Cable routes
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Filing drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Built-in desks
  • Birch plywood

What it costs

What you pay depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The internal fittings

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It’s useful to talk about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Getting in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

From workshop to your room

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the room. A line on how you work helps too.
  2. We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use, and plan where the cables will run.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any part of it.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop, sized for the room, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave it ready for work.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Arranging a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Built-in desks and shelving in Eastcote

About 55% of the homes in the area around Eastcote went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Eastcote, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

Living in a block of flats near Headstone Lane station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live in a period home close to St Lawrence, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. Near listed buildings like Cheney Farmhouse, under half a mile north-west of the centre of Eastcote, older homes may keep original joinery that home offices can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Questions from Eastcote

Is parking a problem for fitting in Eastcote?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What are your built-in desks made from?

The office is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the desk, shelves and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

How is a home office priced?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the amount of desk, shelving and storage, and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we will arrange a design visit.

Bespoke fitted home offices or ready-made?

A fitted office can combine a desk, shelving and cupboards in one design. Separate off-the-shelf pieces seldom match in height or depth. A single design gives the room clean, consistent lines. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
