TV and media units in Pinner

TV and media units in Pinner

A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. For a living room in Pinner, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. If your home has clutter around the TV and standard units leaving gaps, that is what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Plenty of semis and interwar houses have been extended at the back or had the back rooms knocked through, and around Pinner, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large share of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. New plasterboard in an extension and older brick or block in the original house take different fixings.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Fitting day, step by step

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and your equipment, including the size of the screen.
  2. We come to measure, note the sockets and agree the layout. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it’s useful to have them in mind early.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the unit.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Starting with a design visit

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

What affects the price in Pinner

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • How you want to use the space

To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

When you need someone else

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Painting the walls and ceiling
  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Cable routes
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Practical tips

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
  • Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
  • Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
  • Let us know about access early

Clean the paintwork with a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.

Do not let clutter build up against the unit’s vents as things change.

Your questions about TV and media units in Pinner

Is parking a problem for fitting in Pinner?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Pinner?

Yes, Pinner is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Harrow and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Living-room carpentry in Pinner: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 43% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Pinner, with about 28% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 41 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Pinner. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If you live on or close to a main road in Pinner, let us know during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

If your home is one of the older houses near Christian Science Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Close to Eastcote House Gardens? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.

What prompts TV and media units in Pinner

Most people come to us because of the cables. Leads trail from the TV to the boxes, the sockets and the speakers. Built-in units give cables somewhere to go.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • A big screen that dominates the wall
  • Space for a soundbar and speakers

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Sweetmans Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Will the quote be in writing?
