Upper Ruxley Fitted Home Offices

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted home offices for homes in Upper Ruxley, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Shelving that bows under the load
  • A guest room that is needed for work
  • A screen that is hard to read by the window

Fitted home offices in Upper Ruxley: what you get

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. For a home in Upper Ruxley, we design it all around what you need to store. Most enquiries start with a screen that’s hard to read by the window and a corner too odd for a standard desk, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A good share of the homes around Upper Ruxley were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Rooms from that era tend to be squarer than older ones, which makes a full-width desk easy to plan. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall, especially for loaded shelves above a desk.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Materials and finishes

Pull-out drawers

A set of drawers can sit under one end of the desk. Leave knee room in the middle. We plan it at the measuring visit.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is smooth and even. It’s done in our workshop before fitting. You choose the colour.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot usually do that in an older room.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. Dust is kept down and cleared as we go.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The desk and shelving are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
  5. The sections are brought in, joined and scribed to the walls, ready for work.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Getting a quote

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted home offices for homes in Upper Ruxley

About 51% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Upper Ruxley went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Close to Foots Cray Meadows? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hall Place and Gardens, about 2.7 miles north. How we price fitted home offices

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Questions from Upper Ruxley

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Upper Ruxley?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Upper Ruxley included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Upper Ruxley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

It depends on the width and depth of the alcove. Plenty of alcoves suit a small desk, with shelves and storage around it. We will tell you honestly when we visit.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Normally not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
