About fitted wardrobes in DA14
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and storage boxes stacked under the bed.
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
What affects the price in DA14
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

What’s near Sidcup
We fit furniture in homes around Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, Waring Park and Birkbeck Primary School and the streets around them. You’ll also find Holy Trinity Church (within half a mile north) and The Alma pub (under half a mile south). There is a railway station in Sidcup itself: Sidcup station. Well-known places in the area include Queen Mary's Hospital (1 mile south) and Metropolitan Police Museum (close by, under half a mile north-west).
Bedroom storage across DA14
Across DA14, including Orpington, Sidcup and Albany Park, bedrooms come in every size. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. Hanging, shelves and drawers inside are arranged around what you store.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in DA14, with about 31% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Around a third of the homes in DA14 (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. About 31% of homes in the DA14 postcode district were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, DA14 included. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and go through the design.
Sidcup: If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Number 33 (farm Cottage) and Number 35, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Waring Park, fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
What affects the price in DA14
There is no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- The internal fittings
- The overall size of the piece
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking and unloading on your street
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What we need to know
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- The type of home and how the room is reached
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Materials and finishes
Hanging rails
We place rails at the heights your clothes need: one high rail for long coats and dresses, two rails for shirts and jackets.
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface on large doors. It works on plain and panelled doors alike.
Could you do it yourself?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Is bespoke worth it?
To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.
What to check before you book
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Questions we are often asked
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, in moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions. We measure the slope carefully during the design visit and scribe the wardrobe to it.
How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
