Loft Storage in Hatch End
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Hatch End starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- A loft room with too many jobs
Loft storage designed for your room
Loft storage for homes in Hatch End
A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, all made for the shape of the room. For a home in Hatch End, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you’re living with a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a loft room that still feels unfinished, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Hatch End is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and every piece is still scribed where it meets the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Fitting day, step by step
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going.
- It starts with some details from you.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
- Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Where other trades come in
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Approval for structural changes

When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Loft storage for homes in Hatch End
About 38% of the homes in the streets around Hatch End went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 28% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Hatch End is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Harrow included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Hatch End. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
Near listed buildings like East End Farm Cottage, under half a mile south of the centre of Hatch End, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your home is one of the older houses near Pinner Baptist Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. For a family home near Pinner Park Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the rest of the room. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote.

Common questions about loft storage

Do you make loft storage for homes in Hatch End?
Yes. Hatch End is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Harrow and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and we will arrange a design visit.
How long is the fitting for eaves storage?
How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
