Walk-in wardrobes in Hatch End

Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want, and agree the details at the measuring visit. If your home has proper shoe storage and turning a box room into a dressing room, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Hatch End, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, which suits some people well. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, in a finish that suits the house. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Why us?

  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Built around your room
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

How fitting day works

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You tell us about the room and what you want to store, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

Questions we’re often asked

Is Hatch End in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, Hatch End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Harrow and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hatch End?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Living in a block of flats near Hatch End station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Close to Headstone Manor Recreation Ground? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. If you live in a period home close to Pinner Baptist Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.
