Loft storage for your home in Morden
Loft storage in Morden: what you get
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. In Morden, it all begins with a design visit. If you are living with a converted loft with no fitted furniture and no wardrobe that fits under the slope, eaves cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Morden, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the eaves cupboard we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish.

How fitting works for loft storage
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
- We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
- We send a quote in writing.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
- The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Getting a quote
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What affects the cost of loft storage
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- How square the room is
- The internal fittings
- The number of doors and drawers
- The overall size of the piece
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Before the design visit
There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- How you want to use the space
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
How it is made
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They help the storage look as though it was always there. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.
Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Think about how you will reach into the eaves
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. That way, everything works as planned.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a door drops or a drawer catches, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us.
Your questions about loft storage in Morden
Is parking a problem for fitting in Morden?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
Can you make loft storage for a home in Morden?
Yes, we do. We design and make loft storage for homes in Morden, and the process is the same everywhere we go.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. We do not alter insulation or vents.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Morden homes and loft storage
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Morden were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 84%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 5%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Morden is in the Upper Morden Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Terraced houses are more common around Morden than across Merton: about 53% of households, against about 36%, according to Census 2021. Narrow halls and stairs in terraces mean the furniture comes in sections.
If your children go to Morden Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. For an older house near St Lawrence Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. If you live near Cannon Hill Common, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
