How it’s made
Plinths and scribe strips
Loft rooms are seldom square. Scribe strips and a plinth take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can act as a shelf. The design visit settles the mix.
Loft storage in Sutton Common: what you get
A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it’s low. It uses the full height of the room. The design visit in Sutton Common is where we work it out. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and furniture that can’t get up to the loft.
Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around Sutton Common, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You tell us about your converted or boarded loft, including the eaves and any dormer.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft, as everything has to get up there.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote.
- Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Arranging a design visit
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Advice
Your questions about loft storage in Sutton Common
Does a conservation area in or near Sutton Common affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you cover homes near St Helier station?
Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the space. We plan it at the design visit.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
When is bespoke worth it?
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Is bespoke worth it?
In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.
Loft storage in Sutton Common: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Sutton Common were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 73%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 11%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Sutton Common is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Sutton included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Sutton Common. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.
Close to Morden Hall Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Near listed buildings like Mecca Bingo Club, about 0.5 miles east of the centre of Sutton Common, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a flat near St Helier station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
