Loft storage in Wimbledon, Merton

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in Wimbledon, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft

Loft storage for your home in Wimbledon

About our loft storage in Wimbledon

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. For a home in Wimbledon, it’s planned around your things. If you’re living with nowhere to store bags and boxes and wasted space behind the knee walls, eaves cupboards made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

A deep cupboard can lose things at the back, so drawers, lift-up lids or shallow shelves are chosen to suit the space. For a home in Wimbledon, what works depends on how deep and how tall the space is. Any meters, fuse board or boiler keep the access they need.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

How we price loft storage

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How big the furniture is

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Why bespoke in Wimbledon?

If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. At the design visit, we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room as they go in.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Why choose us

  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Built around your room

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft, whether it’s a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

How to prepare

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Advice

Storage in Wimbledon homes: local notes

About 44% of the homes in the area around Wimbledon went up before 1919, and about 18% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 18 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Wimbledon. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. All of London, Merton included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Wimbledon fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to St. Mark's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Parish Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Wimbledon is part of the London Borough of Merton. We design and make loft storage for homes in Wimbledon, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Merton.

Every address in SW19, SW20, SW17 and SW18 is within our area for loft storage. Neighbouring places we cover for loft storage include Crooked Billet (1 mile west), Wimbledon Park (1 mile north), Wimbledon Chase (1 mile south), Copse Hill (1 mile south-west) and Merton Park (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Merton, we also cover Colliers Wood (2 miles east), Morden (2 miles south), Eastfields (3 miles south-east), Merton Abbey (2 miles south-east), Mitcham (3 miles south-east) and Hackbridge (3 miles south-east). What prompts loft storage in Wimbledon

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It suits seasonal things and boxes.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom

The wider area includes historic houses like Southside House, about 1.1 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Angled fronts are cut to follow the slope, so the gaps stay even all the way along.

Pull-out drawers

A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the design visit.

FAQs: loft storage in Wimbledon

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wimbledon station?

Yes, homes across Merton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Wimbledon?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. A conversion is building work, and Building Regulations apply. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
