Waltham Forest Loft Storage
Thinking about loft storage in Waltham Forest? We start with a design visit and a written quote.
- A loft room with too many jobs
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
Loft storage in Waltham Forest
Loft storage in Waltham Forest: what you get
A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. At the design visit in Waltham Forest, we will look at what fits. Most enquiries start with an empty dormer that could hold shelves and a loft room with too many jobs, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. Around Waltham Forest, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
What loft storage can’t fix
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Any work on the structure of the house
- Electrical work in the loft
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
What it is made from
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Moisture-resistant MDF
Do you need loft storage in Waltham Forest?
Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Cupboards behind the knee wall hide them away. The room stays calm and clear.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:
- A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- A loft room with too many jobs
If your children go to Normanhurst School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. We size the shelves for what you said you’d keep there.
Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It is useful to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing.
- Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Ask for a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, message us from the contact page.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you cover homes near Chingford station?
Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Waltham Forest?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?
Every piece is made in sections that fit up the stairs. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.
How is loft storage priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.
Storage in Waltham Forest homes: local notes
In the streets around Waltham Forest, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and before 1919 (about 23%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Waltham Forest include Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Church of St John the Baptist (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south-east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 42% of households in the streets around Waltham Forest, based on Census 2021. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
If you live in a period home close to St John the Baptist Church, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. If you live in a flat close to Chingford station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
