  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

Loft storage in Friday Hill

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Advice

Loft storage for homes in Friday Hill

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Friday Hill. If your home has an empty dormer that could hold shelves and boxes and suitcases with no home, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Friday Hill, many have had the loft converted, leaving low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

The problems loft storage solve

A sloping ceiling makes a standard wardrobe impossible. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It’s a common need in a loft bedroom.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • A loft room with too many jobs

Close to The Highams Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Chingford station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Is Friday Hill in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, Friday Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Waltham Forest and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

How is loft storage priced?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

What affects the price in Friday Hill

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How square the room is

Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

Getting in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. Small marks are simple to touch in later. That helps in a well-used bedroom.

Doors and drawer fronts

The doors and drawer fronts are the face of the storage. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. Their tops follow the line of the slope.

What we do not do

Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Converting the loft itself, which is not our work

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Eaves doors and drawers

Storage in Friday Hill homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Friday Hill were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 45%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Friday Hill. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Friday Hill is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

For families living near Longshaw Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Peter and St Paul, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.
