Little Woodcote TV and Media Units

Planning TV and media units for a home in Little Woodcote? We start with a design visit and a written quote.

  • Bought furniture that does not suit the room
  • Cables trailing across the wall
  • Wasted space around the screen

Pricing TV and media units in Little Woodcote

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Where you live, with the postcode

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

TV and media units in Little Woodcote

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. If you’re living with bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and wasted space around the screen, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A good part of the housing around Little Woodcote is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, and that layout shapes where TV and media units work best. Walls in houses of that age are normally straighter than in Victorian ones, though they’re still checked and scribed where needed.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

When is bespoke worth it?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
  2. We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Getting a quote

Advice

Questions from Little Woodcote

Is parking a problem for fitting in Little Woodcote?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Where is the furniture made?

We make it in our workshop. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

Your electrician does that. It’s best done before the unit goes in, and we plan cut-outs and cable routes around the sockets.

Can landlords use you for a rented flat?

Yes. Landlords and letting agents can arrange a design visit in the same way as anyone else. We will need access agreed with any tenants for the visit and for fitting day.

Is there room for a soundbar?

Speakers and soundbars get open shelves sized for them. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

An off-the-shelf TV stand is cheaper and quick to buy. It’s also easy to replace a stand when your equipment changes. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home in Little Woodcote is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Carshalton Park, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. For an older house near St. Patrick's Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. For a family home near Woodmansterne Primary School, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.
