Under-stairs storage in Alperton, Brent

Pull-out drawers, cupboards and coat storage under the stairs, for homes in Alperton. After a design visit and a quote in writing, it’s built in our workshop and fitted in your home.

  • An under-stairs cupboard full of clutter
  • A vacuum cleaner that has nowhere to go
  • Coats and shoes piling up in the hall

Under-stairs storage designed for your room

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Under-stairs storage in Alperton

In many terraced houses, the gas meter, electricity meter or fuse board sits under the stairs. These must stay easy to reach for meter readers and engineers. Our designs keep a clear way to them, often behind their own door, so you gain storage without losing access. If you’re not sure what’s under your stairs in Alperton, we’ll look when we visit. People typically come to us about a fuse board that’s hard to get to and an under-stairs cupboard full of clutter, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Alperton, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the under-stairs cupboard we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Honest limits

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Reshaping or rebuilding the staircase
  • Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
  • Moving a gas or electricity meter, which is arranged through your energy supplier

Not sure whether your space suits under-stairs storage? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Coat hooks and shoe shelves
  • Pull-out drawers
  • Hand-painted finish

From workshop to your room

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the space and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You let us know about the stairs and what you’d like to store, such as coats, shoes or the vacuum cleaner.
  2. We measure the space, the slope and the floor, and note any meters or fuse boards.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is built in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the stairs and checked with you. The way to any meters is left clear.

Before fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

Your questions about under-stairs storage in Alperton

I live near Wembley Central station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make under-stairs storage for a home in Alperton?

Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London, and Alperton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

What is under-stairs storage made from?

Our storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Birch plywood holds screws well, which matters for drawers that carry weight. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Is it possible to have a desk built under the stairs?

Often, yes, where the space opens onto a room and there is enough height at one end. We can build a desk with shelves and drawers to suit the space. New sockets or lights are for your electrician, and we leave a route for the cables.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

The problems under-stairs storage solve

Many people struggle with the shallow, sloping end under the bottom steps. You cannot stand up in it, and you cannot reach the back without kneeling. Drawers that slide out on runners turn that tricky corner into useful storage.

Requests we hear often include:

  • A dark, wasted space under the stairs
  • Struggling to reach the gas or electricity meter
  • Nowhere to keep the vacuum and ironing board
  • The low end of the space going to waste

For a family home near Alperton Community School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked

How we price under-stairs storage

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The internal fittings

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What to send when you get in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Examples of the look you’re after

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
