Our fitted wardrobes across HA0
An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and a wardrobe packed against one can trap moist air. We allow for ventilation behind and within wardrobes on external walls to help avoid condensation and mould. Moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice there too. Most enquiries start with clothes with nowhere proper to go and space under the eaves going to waste, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room.
- We come to measure and discuss the design, including the doors and the finish.
- We send a quote in writing.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
What affects the price in HA0
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

How to get a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes across HA0: local notes
HA0 has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. The design follows the room, not a catalogue, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
In HA0, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 41%) and the years since 2000 (about 31%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than a third of the homes in HA0 (about 41%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Around a third of the homes in HA0 (about 31%) were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted furniture is fixed to suit the board.
We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, and HA0 is part of that. Every job starts the same way, with a design visit to measure and discuss the design.
Alperton: Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your home is one of the older houses near St James Church Alperton, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
How we price fitted wardrobes
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
What we need to know
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What the furniture needs to hold
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Examples of the look you’re after
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Looking after your furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line, and sliding doors can be adjusted on their runners.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight and adjust doors before a rub marks the paint.
When you need someone else
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Structural changes to the room
When is bespoke worth it?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or won’t go up the stairs at all. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
Questions from HA0
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe to help avoid condensation and mould.
Which boards do you build with?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. The materials are named in your written quote.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a written quote once we’ve measured up.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
How long does it take to fit wardrobes?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk you through what to expect beforehand.
Is the furniture made to order?
We make it in our workshop, to the sizes taken during the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
The space in front of the wardrobe usually decides it. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We look at it with you when we measure.
