About fitted wardrobes in Brent
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. We allow for ventilation behind and within wardrobes on external walls to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and wasted space beside the chimney breast, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch and let us know what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.
How our quotes work
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, use our contact form.

Bedroom storage across Brent
Across Brent, from Kilburn, Neasden and Harlesden outwards, we design and fit fitted wardrobes. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it’s made of.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in Brent, with about 28% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Around a third of the homes in Brent (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Of the 29 places we have local pages for in Brent, 29 have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both at the measuring visit.
Kilburn: Living in a block of flats near Queens Park (London) station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Close to Queen’s Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Honest limits
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
What affects the price in Brent
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How square the room is
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Examples of the look you are after
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, use our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Practical tips
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
- Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
If you have sliding doors, keep the bottom track clear of dust and fluff. Clear anything that falls into it.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight.
Is bespoke worth it?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
Questions from Brent
What materials do you use?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. Your quote sets out the materials.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It is planned so there is room around the bed and the room doesn’t feel enclosed.
How do I get a quote?
Simply fill in our short enquiry form. Rough measurements and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Do you cover Brent?
Yes. Brent is part of the area we cover, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
