Wembley Park Under-Stairs Storage
Under-stairs storage in Wembley Park: pull-out drawers, cupboards and coat storage under the stairs. Every piece is made in our workshop and fitted in your home.
- Cleaning things with no proper home
- A low corner too deep to reach into
- A meter or fuse board buried behind clutter
Under-stairs storage designed for your room
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard drawer units are made in fixed sizes that rarely match the depth under the stairs. Bespoke drawers are made to the depth you have, so the back of the space is used too. Each one is sized for what it will hold, from shoes to the vacuum cleaner. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. It is then assembled and fixed in the room.
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

Under-stairs storage in Wembley Park: what you get
In many terraced houses, the gas meter, electricity meter or fuse board sits under the stairs. They need to stay accessible, so readings and safety checks can still be made. Our designs keep a clear way to them, often behind their own door, so you gain storage without losing access. If you are not sure what’s under your stairs in Wembley Park, we’ll look when we visit. Most enquiries start with a dark, wasted space under the stairs and needing a compact spot for a laptop; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A large number of homes around Wembley Park date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Boilers, cylinders and consumer units often sit in a hall cupboard, and any new storage keeps their access and ventilation. Cupboards can be shallow where space is tight, so the hallway still feels open.
You get the quote in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you make under-stairs storage for a home in Wembley Park?
Yes, we work across Brent, Wembley Park included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How long is the fitting for under-stairs storage?
How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the space and the number of drawers and doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The storage is made in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the hallway as clear as we can while we work.
What does an under-stairs cupboard cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers usually involve more work than plain shelving, and the finish makes a difference too. We set it all out in a written quote.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.
How fitting works for under-stairs storage
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the space and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so let us know what applies during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts when you contact us with some details about the space, and whether the meters or fuse board are in there.
- At the design visit we measure under the stairs and plan the drawers and doors with you, keeping the meters and fuse board easy to reach.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
- The drawers, doors and carcasses are made in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the stairs and the walls. Any meters stay easy to reach.
Before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Under-stairs storage for homes in Wembley Park
Homes built since 2000 make up about 57% of the housing in the streets around Wembley Park, with about 29% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Wembley Park is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Brent sets its own rules. If your street in Wembley Park is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like at the measuring visit.
Close to St. Raphael's Edible Garden? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and under-stairs cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is one of the older houses near St Augustine, pull-out drawers can reach right to the back of a deep under-stairs space. Near listed buildings like Brent Town Hall, under half a mile north-east of the centre of Wembley Park, older homes may keep original joinery that under-stairs cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

What we don’t do
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Moving a gas or electricity meter, which is arranged through your energy supplier
- Moving gas pipes under the stairs
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Pull-out drawers
- Coat hooks and shoe shelves
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What it costs
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Before the design visit
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Tips worth knowing
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Consider the colour of the hall, the stairs and the skirting
- Plan decorating around the fitting
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Measure your vacuum cleaner and ironing board
A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a little of the paint, or a note of the colour, for later. Spray-painted fronts have a smooth, even finish that wipes clean.
Don’t store things in front of the meter or fuse board. Readers and engineers need to reach them, and you may need to as well. A dedicated door makes this easy to keep up.
