Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Becontree

Good light helps you see colours and find things. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details during the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are the right mix of long and short hanging and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Becontree, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Tips worth knowing

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Think about whether you want doors
  • Keep the room ventilated

Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly on a cooler external wall. Avoid packing clothes tight against the back of the units, so air can circulate.

It helps to know what you’ll keep before we measure. We plan the layout around your clothes, so a clear-out first gives a better design.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Becontree

Do you cover homes near Chadwell Heath station?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is Becontree in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, Becontree is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

How much time does fitting need?

The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes, if there is enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

How it is made

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek finish, spray painting works well, and it is finished before fitting day.

Doors and drawer fronts

A dressing table with drawers can be built in if the room allows.

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Sharing one wardrobe between two rarely works for long. A walk-in wardrobe can be planned with a side for each, so both have room.

Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:

  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • A built-in dressing table
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

If you live in a period home close to St George's, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
