Walk-in wardrobes in Goodmayes, Redbridge
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Goodmayes starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

Walk-in wardrobes in Goodmayes: what you get
You do not need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. People typically come to us about a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and separate space for two people’s clothes, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around Goodmayes, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture. The main bedroom may have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Goodmayes
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Goodmayes?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Goodmayes?
Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Goodmayes is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Goodmayes
In the neighbourhood around Goodmayes, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 35%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Goodmayes, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Saints (Grade II), under half a mile south-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Goodmayes is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Eastbury Manor House, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Close to South Park? Walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your children go to Goodmayes Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Looking after your furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Know what you’ll keep before planning
- Let air move through the space
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly on a cooler external wall. Leave a little space behind hanging clothes, so air can circulate.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. We cannot advise on your lease.
Flats, leases and landlords
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.
Where other trades come in
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
- Building a new partition wall
- Making good walls and ceilings
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch and let us know about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Before we arrive
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
