Fitted wardrobes for your home in Becontree
How we make fitted wardrobes for Becontree
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If your home has condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use, fitted wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Becontree, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How it’s made
Birch plywood
For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing, standing up to daily opening.
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawer fronts can sit behind the doors or on the outside. Inside drawers keep the front simple.
Fitted bedroom furniture in Becontree
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Becontree were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 76%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Becontree include Church of St Mary (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Barking and Dagenham sets its own rules. If your street in Becontree is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Tell us what the parking is like during the design visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Eastbury Manor House, about 2.1 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live in a period home close to St George's, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home, ready to assemble in the room. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Why choose us
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Built around your room
- Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Fitting day, step by step
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses usually have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
- A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with your clothes in mind.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Becontree
Is parking a problem for fitting in Becontree?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chadwell Heath station?
Yes. We cover all of Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
The inside is planned around your clothes. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes. We talk it through at the design visit.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it is lower. It makes good use of space that is hard to furnish.
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
A spare room turning into a guest room or a child’s room is another reason. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage. Inside, the layout can change as needs change.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- No space in front for doors to swing
For a flat near Chadwell Heath station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
What to check before you book
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
