Walk-in wardrobes in Crews Hill
Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. The layout leaves room to move and to see what you have. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and shelves for shoes and bags.
A good share of the homes around Crews Hill were built between 1945 and the early 1970s. Bedrooms from that era are often squarer than in older houses, which suits fitted furniture along a full wall. Some post-war homes have an original cupboard over the stairs that can be rebuilt as part of the design. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Crews Hill homes and walk-in wardrobes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Crews Hill were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 34%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Crews Hill is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Crews Hill is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
Near listed buildings like Glasgow Stud Farmhouse, under half a mile north of the centre of Crews Hill, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If your children go to St John's CofE Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

Questions from Crews Hill
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Crews Hill station?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Crews Hill?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the room. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so the right fixings are part of the plan for fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in, and the pieces are assembled in the room.
- First, you tell us about the space. A line on how you will use the room helps.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
- A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The units are built in our workshop.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
Getting a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Post-war rooms are often compact, and standard furniture sizes waste space at the ends and the top, while fitted furniture fills the space. The pieces are made to the room’s own widths.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.
Why choose us
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Saturday work by arrangement
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
See our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or how to compare quotes.
What it costs
What you pay depends on:
- How big the furniture is
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Spray painting or hand painting
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.
What we need to know
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a quote in writing follows.
Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Crews Hill?
A spare room or box room that rarely gets used is another reason. Fitted out as a walk-in wardrobe, it becomes part of everyday life than keeping a bed in it.
People typically get in touch with us about things like these:
- Proper shoe storage
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- Separate space for two people’s clothes
- A built-in dressing table
For an older house near Church of St John the Baptist, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Choosing a carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
