Our fitted wardrobes across EN2

In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, scribed to follow the uneven walls. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a bedroom that never feels tidy and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall.

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

What goes into your quote

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across EN2

From Enfield Chase, Bush Hill Park and Gordon Hill to the quieter streets, bedrooms across EN2 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Fitted wardrobes are made for the room you have, using the full height where it helps. The inside layout is planned around your things.

About 32% of the homes in EN2 went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 22% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Around a third of the homes in the EN2 postcode district (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Of the 12 places we have local pages for in EN2, 12 have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in EN2 are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Enfield Chase: Close to Enfield Town Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. For families living near Chase Side Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan fitted wardrobes. They help before and after fitting:

  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall beforehand
  • Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Let us know which walls face outside

New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. At first, handle the doors with care.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Standard wardrobes cannot follow a slope. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line, with hanging where it’s tall and drawers or shelves where it’s low.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

What we don’t do

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
  • Structural changes to the room

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in EN2

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a written quote once we’ve measured up.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in EN2?

It is easiest to drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

What are your fitted wardrobes made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well.
