Walk-in wardrobes in Edmonton: what you get

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We will discuss the options at the design visit. People usually come to us about a calmer, clearer bedroom and turning a box room into a dressing room, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

If your bedroom is in a period house, expect uneven walls and tall ceilings; in a newer flat, expect plasterboard and a lower ceiling. Your home in Edmonton could be either, or something in between. We scribe, level and fix to suit whichever you have. The height of the room decides how tall the pieces can be.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Questions we’re often asked

Does a conservation area in or near Edmonton affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Edmonton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?

Yes, if there is enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. We plan the details of the day during the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build everything in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

Preparing the room

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Bedroom storage in Edmonton

In the neighbourhood around Edmonton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Edmonton include Lamb's Cottage (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west, and Church of All Saints Edmonton Parish Church (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Enfield included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Edmonton. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.

Bruce Castle, about 1.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For a family home near Brettenham Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Some people want a calmer bedroom. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.

Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:

  • Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
  • A built-in dressing table
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

If you live in a period home close to All Saints' Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Looking after your furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure

Store heavy things on lower shelves, and don’t overload a single rail. It helps the shelves and rails stay straight.

Deal with any damp before the units go in. Cooler external walls can lead to condensation, so we allow for ventilation.

What it is made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, giving a smooth finish.

Birch plywood

Drawer boxes take daily use, so we make them strong.

Why bespoke in Edmonton?

If you’re likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. It is worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. Standalone furniture leaves gaps behind and above it that gather dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
