About our walk-in wardrobes in Elm Park

Hanging space is the heart of most walk-in wardrobes. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. If you’re living with the right mix of long and short hanging and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around Elm Park, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Emerson Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Elm Park?

Yes, Elm Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Why bespoke in Elm Park?

There is a place for both. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. For tricky rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Elm Park

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Ask for a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Practical tips

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Think about long versus double hanging

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Elm Park

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Elm Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 49%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Elm Park (about 49%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 58% of households in the area around Elm Park, the 2021 Census shows. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

For an older house near St Nicholas Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. Close to Harrow Lodge Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. If your children go to Elm Park Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
