Walk-in wardrobes in Romford
FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Romford
Does a conservation area in or near Romford affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Romford?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?
Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
About our walk-in wardrobes in Romford
Many London homes have a small room that’s awkward as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. The layout leaves room to move and to see what you have. If your home has shelves for shoes and bags and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Romford, bedrooms usually have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Caring for painted furniture
Getting the most from walk-in wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.
A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We make and fit the units inside.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

Walk-in wardrobes in Romford: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in the streets around Romford, with about 30% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Romford, Historic England’s list includes Parish Church of St Edward the Confessor (Grade II*), under half a mile north, and The Golden Lion Public House (Grade II), less than half a mile north. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 42% of households in the streets around Romford live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
For a flat near Romford station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 1.4 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Lodge Farm Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the measuring visit.
