Fitted wardrobes in Elm Park
Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. The layout is planned so the room does not feel boxed in. Most enquiries start with wasted space beside the chimney breast and mismatched bedroom furniture; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Elm Park, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Tall doors need a stable material. MDF gives a flat, smooth surface that paints well, for plain or panelled doors alike.
Plinths and scribe strips
The plinth lifts the wardrobe and hides an uneven floor. Its height can be set to match the skirting.

Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room.
- We come to measure and go through the design, including the doors and the finish.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Before fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Elm Park
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Elm Park?
Yes. Elm Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Havering and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Elm Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we plan airflow behind and within it.
How do I get a quote?
It’s easiest to send us a few details through our contact form and tell us about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
