Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

The moisture-resistant grade suits walk-in wardrobes on external walls, alongside good ventilation.

Shelves

Shoe shelves can be angled or flat, sized to what you own.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Emerson Park

Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, and two rails stacked one above the other suit shirts, jackets and trousers. The balance of long and double hanging is based on your clothes. Most enquiries start with more space for clothes and shoes and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Emerson Park, bedrooms normally have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Emerson Park

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Emerson Park?

Yes, Emerson Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Emerson Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?

It’s your choice. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, and open storage makes things quick to find. Many people choose a mix.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

How to prepare

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Getting a quote

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form. The written quote follows the visit.

Advice

When is bespoke worth it?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Emerson Park

Several things affect the price:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking near your home
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Spray painting or hand painting

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, with the materials and finish set out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

What to send when you get in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Walk-in wardrobes in Emerson Park: local notes

About 38% of the homes in the area around Emerson Park went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 23% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Emerson Park include Well Tower at Tower Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Emerson Park (about 38%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall.

If your children go to Nelmes Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Close to Haynes Park? Walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your home is one of the older houses near All Saints, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Fitted storage stays with the house when you move. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
