Walk-in Wardrobes in Harmondsworth

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Harmondsworth starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want, and agree the details during the design visit. Most enquiries start with hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Harmondsworth, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Harmondsworth

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Harmondsworth were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 34%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Harmondsworth, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary (Grade II*), under half a mile north, and Harmondsworth Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Harmondsworth. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to Heathrow Terminal 5 Rail station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For a family home near Harmondsworth Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Harmondsworth is about 7 miles north-east of Ruislip, in the London Borough of Hillingdon. Harmondsworth is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Hillingdon, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

Design visits and fitting in UB7 and TW6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets like Moor Lane, Hatch Lane and High Street, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. If you’re just outside Harmondsworth, we also cover Sipson (1 mile north-east) and Harlington (2 miles east). Across the rest of Hillingdon, our area takes in Ruislip (7 miles north-east), Hayes (3 miles north-east), Hillingdon (4 miles north), Yeading (5 miles north-east), Yiewsley (5 miles north-east) and Ruislip Manor (7 miles north-east).

Why bespoke in Harmondsworth?

A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Why choose us

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or what a quote should include.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which matters for drawers and long shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Shelves

Upper shelves are good for cases and seasonal clothes, while daily things stay within reach.

How fitting day works

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically simple, though we still measure the route in not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. You get a written quote for the design we’ve agreed.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

How to prepare

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Harmondsworth?

Yes, Harmondsworth is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

Does a conservation area in or near Harmondsworth affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We will also ask about access and parking.

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • How big the furniture is

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.
