Walk-in Wardrobes in Hillingdon

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Hillingdon, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Proper shoe storage
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room

Walk-in wardrobes in Hillingdon

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?

Some people want a calmer bedroom. Moving clothes into a separate space leaves the bedroom simpler and quieter to look at.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Somewhere for shoes to live
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Somewhere to sit and get ready

If you live in a flat close to West Drayton station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Hillingdon

Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. If the room allows, we can include a dressing table. If your home has somewhere to sit and get ready and separate space for two people’s clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Hillingdon, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Bedrooms in Hillingdon: local notes

About 50% of the homes in the area around Hillingdon went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 25% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Hillingdon, Historic England’s list includes Cedars House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles west, and Church of St John (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Hillingdon (about 50%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

For a family home near Abbotsfield School for Boys, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live near Norman Leddy Memorial Gardens, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hillingdon?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Hillingdon?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move and walls should be dry before we fit.

Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?

That depends on how you like to use the space. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we’ll talk it through during the design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Hillingdon

What you pay depends on:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How big the furniture is

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What to send when you get in touch

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, get in touch through our contact form. You receive a written quote after the visit.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Is bespoke worth it?

A basic rail system is easy to change, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, painted to match the room. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
