Walk-in Wardrobes in Harrow

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Harrow starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • More space for clothes and shoes
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom

Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Harrow

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Harrow

You don’t need a spare room to have a walk-in wardrobe. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a side each for a couple and proper shoe storage.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. A big part of the housing around Harrow is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Caring for painted furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
  • Think about long versus double hanging
  • Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
  • Have a clear-out before we measure

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Harrow

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Harrow?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

I live near Harrow-on-the-Hill station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover the whole of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It is useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

Walk-in wardrobes in Harrow: local notes

About 33% of the homes in the area around Harrow went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 27% before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List records 16 entries within half a mile of the centre of Harrow. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Harrow. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.

Headstone Manor, about 1.4 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If your children go to Whitmore High School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Northwick Park, walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Harrow is one of London’s 33 local authority areas. Whether your home in Harrow is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across the rest of London, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

Here we cover the HA2, HA1, UB5 and HA3 postcode area for walk-in wardrobes. Our area takes in homes on streets like High Street, London Road and Perceval Square, along with the roads around them, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place.

  1. You let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Where other trades come in

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Getting consent under your lease
  • Building work to create the room
  • Fixing the cause of damp

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
