Wall beds for homes in Copse Hill

Many people now work from home in a room that also has to sleep guests. A wall bed with a desk or shelves beside it lets the room do both, without the bed taking over. Cable routes for the desk can be planned in, while new sockets are for your electrician. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a guest bed that disappears in the day and a flexible room for a growing family.

A bedroom in a house from between the wars typically has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Copse Hill, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the wall bed designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Questions we’re often asked

Do you cover homes near Raynes Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Copse Hill?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.

How long will the wall bed take to fit?

Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How are wall beds priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each wall bed is different, so we quote once we’ve seen the room. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.

Honest limits

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Getting consent under your lease
  • Structural work to the wall or floor
  • Wiring for lights or chargers

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Wall beds for homes in Copse Hill

In the area around Copse Hill, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 34%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 33%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 9 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Copse Hill. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Copse Hill, let us know at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

Near listed buildings like Southside House, under half a mile north-east of the centre of Copse Hill, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to Raynes Park station, wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is one of the older houses near Christ Church, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.

We design and make wall beds for homes in Copse Hill and the rest of Merton, as part of our work in every London borough. Copse Hill is one of the places in Merton where we make wall beds, and the borough has 20 places on our list.

We also make wall beds in nearby places such as Colliers Wood (3 miles east), Morden (2 miles south-east), Eastfields (3 miles east), South Wimbledon (2 miles east), Merton Abbey (2 miles east) and Mitcham (4 miles east).

What affects the cost of wall beds

Several things affect the price:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The internal fittings
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.

Getting in touch

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly. New paint needs gentle use while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Ask for a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
