Hale End Wall Beds
In Hale End, we design wall beds around the room you actually have. We design your wall bed at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Storage built around a fold-down bed
- A hobby room with a bed for guests
- A bed that fills a little-used room

How we make wall beds for Hale End
A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you don’t need it and comes down when it is time to sleep. It means a room can work as more than a bedroom, like a spare room that is also a study. We make the cabinet for your room and paint it in a colour you choose. If you’re living with a studio that works by day and night and a bed that looks like cupboards by day, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Around Hale End, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That is where wall beds earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You tell us about the room.
- We come to measure and discuss the bed, the storage and the finish.
- You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- The wall bed is fitted, and any hand painting is done on site.
Before fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Why bespoke in Hale End?
A sofa bed is cheaper and simpler, and for occasional guests that may be enough. With a wall bed you get a proper bed and an empty floor by day, which can make a small room usable. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and those are common in interwar houses. Fitted furniture is made around them.
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Why choose us
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home

Your questions about wall beds in Hale End
Is Hale End in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes, we work across Waltham Forest, Hale End included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.
I live near Highams Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Waltham Forest and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can a wall bed have storage around it?
Yes, that’s a common request. A desk beside the bed suits a room that is an office by day, and any new sockets are for your electrician.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Materials and finishes
Shelves
A few open shelves beside the bed break up a run of doors.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood gives a strong carcass for a piece that moves every day.

Within a mile of the centre of Hale End, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
For families living near Joseph Clarke School, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. For a flat near Highams Park station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For an older house near All Saints Church of England Highams Park, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
