Fitted wardrobes across IG8: what to expect

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.

  1. To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

What affects the price in IG8

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Why homeowners in IG8 choose us

  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Starting with a design visit

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Around Woodford

We fit furniture in homes around Churchfields Junior School, St Barnabas' Church and Woodford Green Preparatory School, among other places. You will also find Former White Hart Public House (0.7 miles south-west), The Highams Park (1.1 miles north-west) and Woodbridge High School (within half a mile south-east). The nearest railway station is Highams Park station, about 1.3 miles west. Nearby you will also find Wanstead Hospital (1.4 miles south). For a walk, there’s Highams Park Lake.

Homes across IG8 and their bedrooms

Homes across IG8, Walthamstow, Woodford and South Woodford included, have bedrooms with every kind of quirk. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. You choose the colour and whether it’s spray-painted or hand-painted.

In IG8, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 26%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. About 26% of homes in the IG8 postcode district date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. 1 of the 10 places in IG8 with their own pages here has its centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in IG8, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.

Woodford: For an older house near St Barnabas' Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If your children go to Woodbridge High School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

What it costs

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The internal fittings
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The overall size of the piece

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Helping us understand the room

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.

What we do not do

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in IG8

Is the furniture made to order?

Everything is made at our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch through our contact form. Rough measurements and a few pictures help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, followed by a quote in writing.

Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings and fitted storage suits them well. The slope is measured during the design visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

The fitting depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.

What materials do you use?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, and the quote says which is used where.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Do you cover IG8?

Yes. We work in IG8 and across Redbridge.
