Selhurst Wall Beds
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make wall beds for homes in Selhurst, each designed at a visit to your home.
- A bed that looks like cupboards by day
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
- Shelves or a desk around the bed

About our wall beds in Selhurst
The bed mechanism must be fixed securely, exactly as its maker specifies, into a wall or floor that is sound enough to hold it. We check the wall and floor during the design visit as solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are storage built around a fold-down bed and hiding the bed when it’s not in use.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms can be anything from a box room to a big front room. Fitted furniture can suit each, sized and laid out for the room. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.
A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Your questions about wall beds in Selhurst
How do you fit wall beds in a flat in Selhurst?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Wall beds are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
I live near Norwood Junction station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.
What happens when you come to measure?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Normally not. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.
Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?
A secure fixing and careful use are what matter. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out, and you keep the space in front clear and children away while it moves.
Flats, leases and landlords
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.
Why bespoke in Selhurst?
Ready-made wall bed units are available and normally cost less, and in a simple room they may be enough. They’re made in standard sizes and rarely allow for an uneven wall or an alcove. A bespoke cabinet is built for the room. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have at least one. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
What you get with us

- Saturdays by arrangement
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Work across the whole of London
See bespoke vs off-the-shelf and what to look for in a quote.
Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
What else we make in Selhurst
What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.
- You tell us about the room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the cabinets in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly. New paint needs gentle use while it cures.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Getting a quote
To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a quote in writing follows.
Advice
What affects the cost of wall beds
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking during the design visit.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
For a quote for wall beds in Selhurst, drop us a line using the contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, plus any rough measurements. We will arrange a design visit, then send a quote in writing.
