Fitted wardrobes across Croydon: what to expect

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an tricky corner into storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are space under the eaves going to waste and several odd pieces where one run of storage would do; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements.
  5. We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Quotes in Croydon

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote.

Why homeowners in Croydon choose us

  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • Built around your room
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

Ask for a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Green spaces nearby include Biggin Wood.

Homes across Croydon and their bedrooms

If your bedroom in Croydon has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.

About 29% of the homes in Croydon went up before 1919, and about 24% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 6 of the 32 places in Croydon with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in Croydon are well within our area. Let us know about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Thornton Heath: Close to Grangewood Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Stephen, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

What to check before you book

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp

Boards, parts and paint

Hand-painted finish

With hand painting, you see the colour in your own room’s light. Joins and scribed edges are painted in the same coats.

Doors and drawer fronts

Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. In a narrow room, sliding doors save space, though only part of the inside is open at once.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Croydon

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

We allow for it from the start. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls so the doors close neatly.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes, in the proportions you need. We talk it through at the design visit.

Do you make good the walls afterwards?

No. Plastering and decorating are not part of our work. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Croydon?

The first step is to use our contact form with a few details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Croydon?

Yes. Croydon is part of the area we cover, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To get a quote, message us from the contact page.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We talk through both at the measuring visit.
