Alcove units in Eden Park, Bromley
In Eden Park, we design alcove units around the room you actually have. We design your alcove unit at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Standard units leaving gaps at the sides
- Worn or badly fitted alcove units
- Bare alcoves beside the fireplace
Alcove units for your home in Eden Park
Is it time for alcove units?
Often the alcoves are simply the biggest unused space in the room. Standard furniture seldom fits an alcove, so there are gaps at the sides and the top. A fitted unit fills the recess from wall to wall.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Toys and paperwork with no proper home
- Old alcove cupboards that have seen better days
- Bowed walls and sloping floors
- Empty alcoves either side of the chimney breast
If you live in a flat close to Eden Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Alcove units in Eden Park
One alcove can be given over to a desk, with shelving overhead and storage underneath. It gives you a place to work without turning a room into an office. Desk height and depth are agreed with you, with a gap or hole planned so cables can reach the sockets. We make alcove units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about alcoves that are wasted space and cupboards in keeping with an older house.
Ceilings in interwar houses tend to be lower than in Victorian ones, so alcove units are proportioned to the room rather than copied from a taller one. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Eden Park, there may be little or no cornice, which lets the furniture run straight up to the ceiling. The skirting is scribed around neatly.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Flats, leases and landlords
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
FAQs: alcove units in Eden Park
Can you make alcove units for a home in Eden Park?
Yes. Eden Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Bromley and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Eden Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, message us from the contact page.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Will alcove units fit if my walls aren’t straight?
Yes. We measure each alcove carefully at the design visit, make the units in our workshop and trim the edges on site to meet the wall, which closes the gaps you’d see with standard furniture.
Do alcove units affect the chimney’s ventilation?
Any vent in the chimney breast is kept clear when we design the units. A capped or blocked chimney should still be ventilated to help stop damp, so we never box a vent in.
Alcove units for homes in Eden Park
In the streets around Eden Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 64%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Eden Park include Oak Lodge (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south, and Langley Court Chapel (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your street in Eden Park joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Close to Millers Pond? Alcove units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. Bromley Palace, about 2.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why alcove units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing means trimming the edges on site so they follow the wall. This closes the gap between a straight unit and a bowed alcove.
Spray-painted finish
Because the units are sprayed before they come to you, there’s less painting to do in your home, in the colour agreed with you. Give the paint time to cure fully once fitted.
From workshop to your room
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the alcoves and what goes in them, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Advice
Bespoke alcove units or ready-made?
Alcoves vary in depth, and the chimney breast decides how far a unit can come out. Standard cabinets can stand proud of the breast or sit too far back. Bespoke units are made to the depth you want, flush with the chimney breast or set back from it. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
