Bespoke kitchens in Middle Park, Greenwich

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Middle Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A kitchen for a room that is not square
  • A larder for food and small appliances

Bespoke kitchens in Middle Park

Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. Most enquiries start with a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Middle Park, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Gas work is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Middle Park

Do you cover homes near Mottingham station?

Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Middle Park?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

If there’s enough room, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this at the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Practical tips

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Check there is room around an island before planning one

If a hand-painted door gets a chip, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Damp behind units can lead to mould, particularly on a colder external wall.

Honest limits

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Islands where space allows

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Kitchens in Middle Park homes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 63% of the housing in the area around Middle Park, with about 31% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Middle Park is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. About 31% of homes in the neighbourhood around Middle Park were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Kitchens from that era tend to be small and regular, which suits cabinets made to their exact size.

For a flat near Mottingham station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Saviour, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. The wider area includes historic houses like Eltham Palace, about 0.4 miles east. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Fitting day, step by step

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
