Bespoke kitchens in Chinbrook: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 48% of the housing in the streets around Chinbrook, with about 26% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Chinbrook include Baring Hall Hotel and associated stable block (Grade II), about 0.5 miles west, and The Grange Eltham College Junior School (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. In Chinbrook, a van will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Tell us what parking is near you at the design visit.

If your children go to Marvels Lane Primary School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. If you live in a flat close to Grove Park station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Bespoke kitchens in Chinbrook

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. Each dresser is made for its wall and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dresser that suits a period house and a kitchen finished in your colours.

In a semi or detached house, there may be space for a utility cupboard as well as the kitchen. Around Chinbrook, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing. Utility cupboards can be made in the same style and paint colour as the kitchen. Your plumber connects any washing machine or sink.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Tips worth knowing

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • List what needs a home in the kitchen
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Wipe up spills promptly

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time is not good for any finish. Good ventilation helps paintwork last.

It helps to know which appliances you want early. Their sizes shape the cabinets, so late changes can be tricky.

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Chinbrook?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Do you cover homes near Grove Park station?

Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

How are bespoke kitchens priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.

What we don’t do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Any work on the gas supply
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • New sockets or circuits

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Islands where space allows
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?

Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. Painted cabinets, a dresser or a larder can sit well with original features and look as if they belong.

Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:

  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • Tall larder storage

If your home is one of the older houses near Jubilee International Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

What to check before you book

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know during the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets.
  4. The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
