Bespoke kitchens in New Addington
Fitting day, step by step
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Post-war blocks often have shared stairwells and lifts, so kitchens are made in sections sized for each. Tell us about any building rules on lifts or working hours at the measuring visit.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Preparing the room
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

About our bespoke kitchens in New Addington
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. If you are living with tall larder storage and extra cupboard space, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Many homes around New Addington date from the post-war decades. Kitchens from that era are often compact and regular in shape, so cabinets made to the room’s own widths make the most of every wall. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Questions we are often asked
Is New Addington in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and New Addington is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in New Addington?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease.
Do pictures help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Looking after your furniture
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
- Wipe up spills promptly
Do not leave water sitting on painted cabinets, particularly around the sink and dishwasher. Moisture-resistant MDF copes well, but standing water is best avoided.
If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
Could you do it yourself?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

A house like that usually has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
Living in a block of flats near Hayes (Kent) station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is one of the older houses near St Edward King and Confessor, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Addington Palace, about 1.5 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Flats, leases and landlords
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it during the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Where other trades come in
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
- Moving water or waste pipes
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
