Our fitted wardrobes across CR9
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. The layout is planned so the room does not feel boxed in. Most enquiries start with space under the eaves going to waste and clothes with nowhere proper to go; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
What affects the price in CR9
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit.
What you get with us
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Starting with a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Bedroom storage across CR9
If your bedroom in CR9 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. Where there is not one, fitted wardrobes can run along a full wall instead. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.
The biggest shares of homes in the CR9 postcode district were built before 1919 (about 28%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 23%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 3 of the 12 places in CR9 with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Croydon: Near listed buildings like Old Palace Croydon: Great Hall, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre of Croydon, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Park Hill Recreation Ground, fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
An awkward room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
Some of the things we are asked to solve include:
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Too little room for clothes
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, ready to assemble in the room.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
What it costs
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- How square the room is
- The overall size of the piece
- The number of doors and drawers
- The internal fittings
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Helping us understand the room
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll usually ask about:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.
FAQs: fitted wardrobes in CR9
Will you travel outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
It is common, and it’s allowed for. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls, so the doors line up properly.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
It is worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Adjustable shelves keep some flexibility for later.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. A common layout is tall cupboards either side of the bed and storage above the headboard. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
