How we make bespoke kitchens for Forestdale
We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. People usually come to us about a kitchen island with room around it and cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Around Forestdale, where many homes date from the post-war decades, the kitchen may be a galley or a small separate room. Tall cupboards, a larder and wall cabinets taken to the ceiling add a lot of storage. Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood keep the cabinets stable, with the finish agreed in your quote.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Forestdale
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Forestdale were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 53%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 37%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Croydon is no exception. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Tell us what the parking is like during the design visit. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Croydon included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Forestdale. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
If you live in a flat close to Sanderstead station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live near Addington Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
Forestdale is about 5 miles north-west of Thornton Heath, part of the London Borough of Croydon. We cover Forestdale as part of our work across Croydon, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Croydon, large and small.
Postcode districts we cover here for bespoke kitchens: CR0 and CR2. You’ll find streets here like Courtwood Lane, Goldfinch Road and Bardolph Avenue, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. We also cover the places around Forestdale: New Addington (1 mile east), Addington (1 mile north) and Coombe (2 miles north-west). Other parts of Croydon we cover include Thornton Heath (5 miles north-west), Croydon (3 miles north-west), Coulsdon (5 miles south-west), Purley (4 miles west), Broad Green (4 miles north-west) and Upper Norwood (6 miles north-west).

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
What bespoke kitchens can’t fix
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
- Any work on the gas supply
- Wiring for appliances and lights
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Walls in post-war homes can be concrete or blockwork, so fixings are chosen for the wall on fitting day. Floors and doorways are protected while the sections come in, and the pieces are assembled in the room.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
Getting a quote
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Forestdale
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Forestdale?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Is Forestdale in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and Forestdale is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Forestdale
People also want a kitchen that is built to last and can be repainted, which suits a long-term home. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up later on.
