About our bespoke kitchens in Northwood

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen that fits an uneven room and an island where space allows.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Northwood, many kitchens have a garden door and a window that shape the layout. Cabinets, a larder and a dresser can be made to suit the layout. Your chosen worktop, sink and appliances are fitted into the design, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Wipe up spills promptly

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Line up your other trades in good time. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, and it’s easier when everyone works from the same design.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Northwood

In the neighbourhood around Northwood, the largest groups of homes date from between 1973 and 1999 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Northwood. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 56% of households in the streets around Northwood live in detached or semi-detached houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Lodge to Admiralty House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For an older house near Emmanuel Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If you live in a flat close to Carpenders Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish.
  3. You get a written quote for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician. We do not arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, use our contact form.

Questions from Northwood

Is Northwood in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and Northwood is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Northwood?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the measuring visit to check there is room to walk round it and open doors. If it would crowd the kitchen, we will say so.

Which worktops and appliances can I have?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you’ve picked. It is useful to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Parking near your home
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Moving water or waste pipes

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can use our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.
