Bespoke kitchens in West Drayton, Hillingdon

Bespoke kitchens in West Drayton

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the measuring visit, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is built in our workshop. If your home has a kitchen planned around your appliances and room for everything in the kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Many homes around West Drayton date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. In a block, each cabinet is sized for the stairs, lift and doors. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice, and the gas, plumbing and electrics are for the right trades.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

From workshop to your room

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a post-war house, the hall and stairs are usually straight and simple, which helps when the sections come in. Even so, the route is measured at the measuring visit. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed, with floors protected throughout.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, finished to suit the room. Post-war rooms are often compact, and standard furniture sizes waste space at the ends and the top, which fitted furniture uses. The pieces are made to the room’s own widths.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in West Drayton

In the streets around West Drayton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%) and the years since 2000 (about 25%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of West Drayton is in the West Drayton Green Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Hillingdon has its own. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For a family home near West Drayton Academy, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If you live near Lake Farm Country Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Martin, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

What it’s made from

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, which matters in drawers and shelves that carry weight. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Hand-painted finish

Touching up or repainting is simple with a hand-painted finish.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in West Drayton?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and West Drayton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in West Drayton?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route not just the room. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

How are bespoke kitchens priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.

When you need someone else

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Connecting a gas hob or cooker
  • Moving water or waste pipes

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
