Bespoke kitchens in Hayes

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Hayes

Do you cover homes near Hayes & Harlington station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Hayes?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

What are your kitchens made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours you choose.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

About our bespoke kitchens in Hayes

Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. There needs to be enough clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a larder for food and small appliances and cabinets built around the appliances you choose.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Hayes, kitchens often have a back door to the garden and a window over the sink. Cabinets, a larder and a dresser can be made to suit the layout. Your chosen worktop, sink and appliances are fitted into the design, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Hayes homes and bespoke kitchens

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 50% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Hayes, with about 19% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of Hayes is within about a quarter of a mile of the Hayes Village Conservation Area. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Hayes is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Northolt Manor, about 3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Hayes is about 4 miles north of Ruislip, within the London Borough of Hillingdon. Anywhere in Hayes, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Hillingdon, large and small.

Here we cover the UB3, UB4, UB8 and UB10 postcode area for bespoke kitchens. Streets in the area include Church Road, Drenon Square and Townfield Square, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. Hayes is near the A312; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Hayes: Hillingdon (2 miles north-west), Yiewsley (2 miles west), West Drayton (2 miles west), Cowley (3 miles west) and Ruislip Gardens (3 miles north). Other parts of Hillingdon we cover include Ruislip (4 miles north), Yeading (2 miles north-east), Yiewsley (2 miles north-east), Ruislip Manor (4 miles north), South Ruislip (3 miles north) and Ickenham (3 miles north). Being one of the larger places in Hillingdon, Hayes is covered for bespoke kitchens and everything else we make.

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Hayes

Older kitchens often lack storage. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more than a row of standard wall units.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A kitchen finished in your colours
  • A kitchen for a room that isn’t square
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
  2. We come to measure up and plan the layout with you, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

What we don’t do

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • New sockets or circuits
