How we make fitted cupboards for Barnet

Gas meters, electricity meters and fuse boards tend to be where you’d least like them, like by the front door or in a hallway corner. We can build a cupboard that tidies them away and still keeps access clear. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so we design doors or removable panels that make that easy. People normally come to us about cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving and storage in a corner nothing else fits, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In an older home, panelled doors and painted mouldings may suit; in a newer one, plain flat doors may fit better. For a home in Barnet, door styles are talked through at the design visit. You choose the colour, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Do you need fitted cupboards in Barnet?

Sometimes the aim is to make storage look like part of the room. Painted doors with a simple frame can sit happily alongside period skirting and coving, so the cupboard looks as if it belongs.

Requests we hear often include:

  • Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • Landing shelves for bedding and towels
  • A neat cupboard around the boiler

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space.
  2. We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways. It is useful to let us know about parking then, as a van typically needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the cupboards in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard cupboards come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap at the side or a space above. Ours are built to the full width and height you choose, so less space goes to waste. Standard units come with shelves and rails where the maker put them, rather than where you need them. Fitted furniture is laid out inside around your things.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why choose us

  • Over 300 projects completed
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • We work across all London boroughs
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

What affects the cost of fitted cupboards

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

What to send when you get in touch

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Barnet

Is Barnet in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Barnet?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

What are the cupboards made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colour agreed with you.

How are fitted cupboards priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
