Our fitted wardrobes across EN4
Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a tight bedroom where doors get in the way and storage boxes stacked under the bed.
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Quotes in EN4
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.

Homes across EN4 and their bedrooms
Across EN4, including New Barnet, Osidge and Hadley, bedrooms come in every size. Fitted wardrobes are made for the room you have, using the full height where it helps. The inside layout is planned around your things.
About 32% of the homes in the EN4 postcode district went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 22% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. About 32% of homes in EN4 date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 44% of households in the EN4 postcode district, based on Census 2021. A house like that normally has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Cockfosters: If your children go to Trent CofE Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
When you need someone else
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
- Building work to create a loft room
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- How square the room is
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The number of doors and drawers
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Your postcode and the borough
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
Before and after fitting day
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
- Think about where you will keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
Hang clothes evenly along each rail. Very heavy coats sit best on a shorter rail, so the rail stays straight.
Let doors close gently rather than slamming, and slide doors without forcing them. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
Is bespoke worth it?
To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
Boards, parts and paint
Doors and drawer fronts
Door styles range from simple flat fronts to panelled ones. You choose a colour that matches or contrasts with the room.
Birch plywood
Wardrobe shelves can carry more weight than you’d think. Birch plywood helps keep them straight.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in EN4
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It makes good use of space that is hard to furnish.
Is the furniture made to order?
Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. It is built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
