Fitted cupboards in Dartmouth Park
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard cupboards come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap at the side or a space above. Ours are built to the full width and height you choose, so less space goes to waste. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it can’t tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

How we make fitted cupboards for Dartmouth Park
We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. The finish is either spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We make fitted cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a cupboard for the meters with easy access and tall cupboards where space is short.
Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. With a large share of the homes around Dartmouth Park built before 1919, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house, and painted to match. If your home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original joinery.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting day works
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Dartmouth Park
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Gospel Oak station?
Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk it through during the design visit.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
Where other trades come in
We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Moving or servicing a boiler
- Changes to meters, which are for your supplier or an electrician
- Connecting appliances to water or waste
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.
